Are Universal Remote as good as they are made up to be? Do they actually control all units and work all functions that they say will work on the package? The answers to these questions are absulutly not! They will not work for a lot of the TV, VCRs, DVD players, VHS units, CD players, and more like hoped for when you buy the universal remote. Anyone you have already tried and failed knows what I am talking about. In realality universal remotes may only work for major brands including Sony, Philips, Magnavox, LG, Panasonic, JVC, Aiwa, Sanyo, Samsung, RCA, GE, Toshiba and a few other major brands. So kick your off-brand like Olevia, Polaroid, Maxent, Sears, JCPenny TV out the door. Even at that, the universal will not work all functions like the original remote has the ability to do. These functions may include: PIP (picture-in-picture), menu, cursor arrows, MTS, Surround, and verious other functions.

If you need a remote control for any unit including: TV, VCR, DVD, Cable, SAT, Receivers, Home Theatre Systems, Tivo, DVR, etc.. You need to get the original remote control that your unit came with. If you do not, you will find yourself with a headach. This page is designed to help you find your remote you need. Select the brand from the links menu and go from there. The best way is to perform a search for the remote control model number or the unit model number on www.replacementremotes.com. After performing this search your original OEM remote will show up and you will have the ability to purchase it.

If the original remote control your looking for is NLA (no longer available) what should you do? First of all this tends to happen alot. Older units especially TV and VCR units are going out of date and the remote controls that came with the units are now dead or lost. Ofcourse the original remotes are no longer available because they are no longer manufactured. What do you do now you might ask. Do you get a universal? No. You get a replacement remote that is made from your original or maybe a diffferent model but has most of the same functions and buttons as your original. Keep in mind that the replacement may look a little different. Heres a few things to look at when comparing remotes for compatibility:
- Both remotes must be the same brand.
- Both remotes must work for the same type of units. EX: TV, VCR, DVD, etc.
- Both remotes need to have all the same buttons, or atleast them buttons you need to use. For example the power button, channel buttons, eject button, etc.
